Writing Autobiography

AYE! Well for starters, My name is Matt, and i suppose i would see myself as a creative writer. I remember during my seventh grade Language Arts class on Friday's we used to have 20 minutes of free write for warm-up. I looked forward to those every week because it gave me an opportunity to write about whatever was on my mind, or to be imaginative and create a story, or poem about ANYTHING. Since then whenever i have a free write assignment, i love completing them because they are original and give the writer little, to no, limits. I dislike writing about topics that do not interest me, and my writing seems to reflect that at times. I would say my writing skills improved the most in 9th grade english; my teacher was a tough grader and made all her students adjust to her style of teaching. Because of her, i have become a more descriptive writer and try to use more interesting modifiers to keep my papers from sounding bland.

  1. Creative writing has also provided me an escape from the academic research papers and lab reports(BSCI106 with DanVan!). I liked your Forrest Gump video, good conclusion!

  2. ahahaha, again, agree with David ^ bsci106 lab reports, NOT a fun time. APA was hard to adjust to after high school years with MLA. But yes, definitely agree with you on the creative writing thing. Creative is the only way to go... it's actually fun!

  3. Hi, Matt! Very nice touch with the video at the end! We'll definitely bring creativity into academic writing (it does belong there, honestly!), and I'll also incorporate some free writing activities in class. The way I see it, all kinds of writing (emails, texts, blogging) helps us with the other kinds of writing we do. It's all about adjusting our message to the particular audience we're facing, while keeping our own style. I enjoyed reading, and look forward to your future posts!

Oh -- and we'll work on choosing topics we care about. It really is tough to spend so much effort and time on something we're not actually invested in ourselves.
